Recreational Badminton

 For those looking to play casually, have a good laugh and meet new people!

Our main weekend sessions (Saturday 12:00-15:00 and Sunday 12:00-14:00 in the Jubilee Sports Hall) consist of mostly doubles matches and singles at less busysessions (ALL abilities are welcome)! We will provide rackets and plastic shuttles with good feedback at our sessions. If you prefer a certain racket or shuttles to play with you are welcome to brin gthem along to the sessions.

Throughout the year, we will also host some awesome socials, so you can get to know your fellow members off the court as well as on the court! If you want to take part in these activities, then purchase the RecBad membership.

Performance Badminton

The Performance Badminton Team is the main competitive badminton team of the university, taking part in regular training and matches against other universities and local teams. 

• We currently have two Men's and one Ladies' team in the BUCS leagues and field a further two Men's, one Ladies and a Mixed team in the local Winchester or Portsmouth district leagues.
• We train 3 times per week (+ matches) with coached training and match play sessions all with feather shuttles

Development Badminton 

Development Squad badminton aims to bridge the gap between the recreational and performance badminton teams, allowing those who don't quite make the Performance team to train and play competitively. To join the development team please sign up to the performance trials above.

• Membership provides access to all RecBad sessions plus an additional session on Tuesdays from 10:00 - 12:00 (with feather shuttles) and a Performance session
• Limited access to Performance coached training sessions
• Opportunities to compete in local Winchester Leagues

🦅 University Eagles

The University Eagles is a welcoming yet competitive badminton club at the University of Southampton. We bring together Staff, Alumni, and Friends of the University who are passionate about playing at a strong level while enjoying a supportive community, students are also welcome to join the club. The membership fee of year 2025-2026 is £130 GBP.

Memberships

Sports and Wellbeing membership

A Sport and Wellbeing membership (either the Sports Pass or Full Gym Membership that includes the Sports Pass) is required to access the Jubilee Sports Hall and can be activated at https://joinin.soton.ac.uk. 

All badminton sessions (recreational, performance, development and eagles) must be booked online via the UoS Sports App before turning up, in order to do this you must go: Make a booking > Team Southampton> Jubilee sports centre > AU Recbad / AU Recbad Eagles / AU Colours (Performance).

Badminton Memberships

Badminton memberships into each part of the club for 2025/26 will be as follows:

• Recreational = £20 for the whole year or £10 per semester - allows access to RecBad Sessions
• Development = £65 per semester - allows access to all RecBad sessions, exclusive development session and some performance sessions
• Performance = £75 per semester - allows access to all performance sessions and coaching

Memberships are on per semester basis to enable individuals to move flexibly up and down within the club.

Badminton restringing services are provided by William Eckworth and Siming Wang. Please email or message them for stringing options.
