Showstoppers is the University of Southampton’s Musical Theatre Society. We welcome anyone with an interest in performing, directing, musical directing, choreographing or producing. Showstoppers is open to all abilities- whether you’ve been performing since you were a kid or just fancy trying something new at university! We do anywhere between 4-6 shows a year, with the first show being our ‘Freshers’ show, which is open to anyone who hasn’t performed with us before. We then have our Small show (which has a smaller cast), Spring show and Summer show. Depending on the year, we will also do an Independent Show (usually an originally written piece) and take a show up to the Edinburgh Fringe. Additionally, we have been competing in IUMTF (the Inter University Musical Theatre Festival) for a few years now. In 2024, we won the competition at Durham and subsequently hosted the festival in Southampton in 2025. We plan to compete again in 2026! Whilst all of our shows are auditioned, we also have many ways to get involved that don’t require auditioning. These include our workshops, which are led by our Development Officers, and focus on strengthening musical theatre skills. We also have termly Cabarets, where anyone can sign up to sing and perform in front of other members of the society.
